Chester – Romans, gladiators and a feast fit for an Emperor (or indeed Empress) – The Blackhouse Grill fits the bill. Surrounded by the ancient Chester walls and just a stones throw away from the ruins of an original Roman amphitheatre, where, we can be sure whole schools of gladiators would have received the chop or indeed the far more welcome and congratulatory ‘thumbs-up’ and perhaps been rewarded with a feast far less impressive than any meal from the Blackhouse Grill.

Having been a huge fan of Est Est Est – The previous Living Ventures restaurant to be located at Newgate House – I was expecting big things of The Blackhouse Grill and I was not disappointed. Many diners will no doubt make a special trip for the Kobe beef; however in my opinion the lobster and chips takes some beating! The welcome and service is superb even at particularly busy, or quiet times.

Being new to the area I have been trying with not much luck, to find a restaurant that ticks all the right boxes. I have finally found it in the blackhouse grill. The service was fantastic, the menu was extensive but not intimidating and the food was exceptional. Keep up the good work and I will definitely be returning.

This has to be the one of the best restaurants in Chester, every time I go I am never disappointed. Everything from the moment you walk in, to when you leave is A*.

We left it a bit late and arrived here unannounced around 10 o’clock in the evening (most other places were shut). The staff were excellent, seating and serving us quickly and welcomingly. The food was very good and reasonably priced.
