Slug and Lettuce, Chester
Chester is a beautiful cathedral city, enclosed in Roman walls, the most intact in England. The Duke of Westminster and his family live in the area, with footballers, along with cast members of Hollyoaks and other celebrities, often spotted in the bar. With Tudor buildings dating from the 1600s and a Victorian revival which resulted in buildings been built in the Tudor style, it is hard not to love Chester. Nearby, The Rodee is the country's oldest flat racing course; every year, May-September, the hustle and bustle of ladies in hats and gentlemen in suits turn the city into a hive of glamour and excitement. Chester is excellent for shopping: you can either stay in the mall or venture around the historic rows. In summer, you can while away the day on a boat on the river Dee; in the evenings, you can visit the theatre, catch a film or do a ghost walk. Weekend nights at The Slug and Lettuce include all sorts of groups, from friends winding down over platters to hens parties or couples enjoying a quiet meal and a drink.
