Chester is a beautiful cathedral city, enclosed in Roman walls, the most intact in England. With Tudor buildings dating from the 1600s and a Victorian revival which resulted in buildings been built in the Tudor style, it is hard not to love Chester.
Nearby, The Rodee is the country's oldest flat racing course; every year, May-September, the hustle and bustle of ladies in hats and gentlemen in suits turn the city into a hive of glamour and excitement. Chester is excellent for shopping: you can either stay in the mall or venture around the historic rows. In summer, you can while away the day on a boat on the river Dee; in the evenings, you can visit the theatre, catch a film or do a ghost walk. Weekend nights at The Slug and Lettuce include all sorts of groups, from friends winding down over platters to hens parties or couples enjoying a quiet meal and a drink.
