Telford's Warehouse, Chester

A fine balance of customer exists, attracted by its friendly staff and large open bar with exceptional selection of European beers, CAMRA rated cask conditioned ales and extensive wine list.

Superbly located on the canal basin this spacious pub enjoys many original features with high ceiling, exposed timbers and brick walls housing industrial artefacts, while the feature glass frontage provides a tranquil scene overlooking the water.

Upstairs is a popular restaurant and contemporary art gallery with relaxed attentive service, excellent menu and weekly specials. Telford?s lower area is reserved for its highly regarded music nights. An intimate live setting for (amongst countless others) John Williams, Ed Harcourt, Ron Sexsmith, Courtnay Pine, The Automatic, Richie Havens, Coldplay, Robert Plant, Kathryn Williams, John Martyn and Nitin Sawhney.

History of The Warehouse - The building itself provides one of the more interesting features in the historic city of Chester. Originally conceived by the famous industrial engineer Thomas Telford in the 1790?s, the Warehouse stands as a magnificent example of Georgian architecture and as a reminder of the once thriving port of Chester.

The building was constructed partly over the canal to allow boats to be located and unloaded from the full height of the loading bay within the building.

The grade 2 listed building was originally converted to a public house in the 1980?s by local architect James Brotherhood.

In 2000, Telford?s was forced to close due to a major fire which desoyed much of the building?s internal features and took nearly a year to restore.
